Good afternoon all. I’ve been asked by our Finance Department to check with other municipalities to determine if there are any examples or policy where exempt staff are provided overtime during emergency events such as but not limited to, an EOC activation and/or being deployed to another Municipal EOC?

I would appreciate your feedback and a copy of any examples language you could provide.

    Hi Greg,

Cowichan Valley Regional District has an Overtime Policy for exempt staff (who normally do not receive overtime) to deal with this issue.

    Wording is as follows:

    Exempt Employees
    1. Overtime pay provisions do not normally apply to Exempt employees, who are covered instead under the Exempt Employee Time-In-Lieu Policy.
    2. When an emergency response event requires Exempt employees to work more than eight (8) consecutive hours in a Primary Reception Centre or an active Emergency Operations Centre, the Employer may consider the payment of overtime provided that the overtime is reimbursable by the Province.

    Hope that helps.
    Good luck!
