We’ve Cleaned House: website touch-ups!

We’re excited to announce some recent housekeeping to the BCAEM website — and no, this isn’t just a new coat of paint. We’ve done a little spring cleaning (okay, more like a full renovation), and we’re pleased to share what’s new, what’s gone, and what’s coming next.

Goodbye Broken Links, Hello Clean Navigation

When we converted to our new web platform, the old links and uploads did not carry forward. Those pesky broken links were not so difficult to tidy up… but we had to learn how first. Now, they’re gone. Dead ends have been cleared out to make way for a smoother, faster, and more helpful experience. This will carry into our members-only areas as we build those out next. We’ve also tightened up navigation and updated outdated content, so you spend less time clicking and more time connecting.

New! “What is Disaster and Emergency Management?” Page

For new practitioners, students, partners, or anyone who’s ever asked, “So… what do you actually do?” — we’ve got you covered. Our new What is Disaster and Emergency Management? page lays out the foundations of our field in a way that we hope is straightforward language. It’s a great shareable resource for your networks, collaborators, and the curious.

New “Situational Awareness” Page

We’ve launched a Situational Awareness hub to help you stay on top of emerging hazards, incidents, and coordination efforts. To launch this, we have focused on public-facing global sources. We are eager to develop similar content for the national, provincial, regional and local geographies. This page brings together timely updates, alerts, and resources in one place — with more curated regional and sector-specific links to come – as our members share them with us. This page will evolve with your input, so tell us what you want to see.

Behind-the-Scenes Housekeeping

In addition to front-facing improvements, we’ve done some governance-friendly tidying behind the curtain — streamlining internal pages, aligning content with our renewed structure, and improving how resources are categorized and accessed. It’s not glamorous, but it’s the infrastructure that keeps us moving. You can now find the last 3 years of annual reports, the Constitution, and the 2024 ratified bylaws with ease!

We Want to Hear from You!

We’re especially keen to hear what national, provincial, regional, and local situational awareness tools, platforms, or data feeds you think should be integrated or linked within our members-only areas.

  • Got a great wildfire dashboard?
  • A local emergency alerting tool?
  • A regional data aggregator?
  • Something from your own EM toolkit?

Send it our way! Your suggestions will help us build out this section to better reflect the realities on the ground across BC’s diverse regions and contexts.
